Leticia “Tish” Moczygemba, Pharm.D. will join the VCU faculty in the Department of Pharmacy in the summer of 2008 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Moczygemba will receive her Ph.D. in Pharmacy Administration from the University of Texas (Austin).

Akash Alexander, Pharm.D., will join the faculty in the Department of Pharmacy in the fall of 2008 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Alexander will complete his residency in the Community Pharmacy program at VCU.

William E. Smith, Pharm.D., MPH, PhD, Executive Associate Dean was appointed to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) National Advisory Council; he is the first pharmacist to be named to the council.

Gretchen Brophy, Pharm.D., BCPS, FCCP, FCCM, Associate Professor of Pharmacy, has been appointed to the Distinguished Investigator Committee (2008 –2011) of the American College of Critical Care Medicine.

Annie Cheang, Pharm.D., Assistant Professor of Pharmacy, was appointed to the American College of Clinical Pharmacy Research Institute as an ad hoc grant reviewer to serve a 3-year term.

Bonny L. Bukaveckas PhD, FACB, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy has been appointed to serve on the National Advisory Council for Intermountain Healthcare Clinical Genetics Institute.

Gary R. Matzke, Pharm.D., Professor of Pharmacy and Associate Dean for Research and Public Policy, and Don Brophy, Pharm.D., Associate Professor of Pharmacy and Medicine have been named Fellows of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN).

William Garnett, Pharm.D., Professor of Pharmacy had his contributions to the understanding of epilepsy highlighted at a celebration on April 25, 2008 at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, Richmond, VA.

The APhA Foundation has recognized the Ukrop's (Grocery) Pharmacy Immunization initiative in Richmond, Virginia by awarding the program a 2008 Pinnacle Awards in the Group Practice Category. The program was spearheaded by Dr. Kelly Goode, Professor of Pharmacy.

Gary R. Matzke, Pharm.D., Professor of Pharmacy and Associate Dean for Research and Public Policy is serving as President of the ACCP through the 2008 annual meeting of ACCP. In addition, he has been elected Chair of the Council of Faculties of the AACP and will assume this responsibility at the July 2008 Annual Meeting of AACP.

Patty Slattum, Pharm.D., PhD is the first pharmacist to receive the William B. Abrams Award in Geriatric Clinical Pharmacology at the 2008 ASCPT Annual meeting on April 2, 2008 in Orlando.

Patty Slattum, Pharm./D., Ph.D. was recognized as the School of Pharmacy Alumni Star during commencement weekend and at a private reception for Alumni Stars on May 17, 2008.

Dr. Amy Whitaker received the 2008 Pharmacy Alumni Service Award from the MCV Alumni Association on April 12, 2008.

Sallie Mayer, Pharm.D., Assistant Professor, Evan Sisson, Pharm,.D., Assistant Professor and Brigitte Sicat, Pharm.D. have been awarded a $17,000 grant from the VCU Council for Community Engagement, June 2008. The project title is, “Education and Care of Patients with Hypertension and Diabetes in a Free Clinic: Collaboration between VCU School of Pharmacy and Richmond Area High Blood Pressure Center.”

The Geriatric Pharmacotherapy Program has received a grant for $12,744 from the Virginia Center on Aging to produce and deliver to pharmacists located in rural areas of Virginia a continuing education program entitled "Medication Therapy Management in Older Persons".

James Zhang, Ph.D., is a sub-recipient on a CDC grant, to study health-related quality of life of patients with sickle cell diseases ($7,339).

Bonny L. Bukaveckas PhD, FACB, Assistant Professor, received the third and final year of funding for the SmartWarf project, "Personalized Medicine, Anticoagulation Treatment", Gustavus and Louise Pfeiffer Research Foundation, $75,000, July 1, 2008.
