Prerequisites for Admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy Program Fall 2008


The following prerequisite courses must be completed prior to admission for students entering in the Fall of 2008. Courses earned through Advanced Placement Tests of the College Board or an International Baccalaureate program will not be accepted to fulfill prerequisite science and math courses.

8 SH       College Chemistry (lecture and laboratory)1    
8 SH       Organic Chemistry (lecture and laboratory)1    
4 SH       Physics (lecture and laboratory)2    
3 SH       Human Anatomy (also, 1 SH lab is preferred)2

3 SH       Microbiology (also, 1 SH lab is preferred)2

1 These courses will include a total of 6 semester hours of lecture and 2 semester hours of lab
2 This course will include a total of 3 semester hours of lecture and 1 semester hour of laboratory
3 At least one semester of composition and rhetoric

4 Due to the importance of a strong biomedical science foundation for success in the Doctor of Pharmacy degree program, some or all of the courses listed below are recommended for students enrolling in the Fall of 2008.

3 SH       Genetics or Molecular Biology    
3 SH       Immunology    
3 SH       Cell Biology    

5The electives will be a balanced program in social sciences, arts, and humanities. Highly recommended electives are computer science, economics, psychology, and sociology. Others include political science, anthropology, history, foreign languages, philosophy, and religious studies.
