B.S. in Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science

Teacher Education in Health & Physical Education Concentration

The Program of Teacher Education in Health and Physical Education is the only School of Education unit that offers a four-year undergraduate degree. Students completing the degree will be certified to teach health and physical education at the elementary, middle and high school levels, and are eligible for teacher licensure in Virginia as well as 44 other states. During their four years, students receive extensive experience interacting with students in both urban and suburban schools.

The teacher education program in health and physical education emphasizes the development of reflective thinking and problem-solving skills. Students develop into reflective practitioners through a combination of theoretical course work and early and sequential field experiences.

Students wishing to pursue the teacher education program in health and physical education should follow the outlined series of steps to meet program expectations.
