- Dr. Moffett’s primary areas of interest are school counseling and the promotion of a nurturing academic climate in K-12 schools—where achievement gaps are closed and barriers to student learning are removed. In professional presentations, school staff trainings, and in her writing, Dr. Moffett seeks to help school personnel to consider research-based methods for reducing bullying; promoting the development of positive interpersonal skills among students; and creating a community of caring among faculty and students. She believes that children thrive in school when they perceive that at least one faculty member knows them well, and cares for them as individuals. Dr. Moffett is a certified trainer and consultant for the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, and has trained many schools in this whole-school character education program with a 30 year international research base. She has presented the America School Counselor Association National Model for School Counseling Programs throughout Central Virginia. This comprehensive, developmental model promotes action research and accountability. It empowers school counselors to serve as advocates and leaders as they collaborate with administrators, parents, teachers, and community leaders to promote systemic change and student academic success.
